Wildfires happen most often during the late winter or late summer months when the grass, leaves and woody plant material are dry.
Wildfires often begin unnoticed and spread rapidly. People accidentally start most wildfires however some are caused by arson. Common wildfire ignitions include campfires that are improperly doused, a tossed cigarette, burning debris, lightning or arson.
To help prevent wildfires build campfires away from trees or bushes, keep water close at hand, never leave a fire unattended.
